Installing the compiler for both C and C++
$ sudo apt-get install gcc gcc-4.2  g++ g++-4.2 autogen automake libtool bison

Installing pkgconfig (if not already there)

$ sudo apt-get install pkg-config

Install the Xorg/X11 headers and Libraries for supporting MaXX Desktop Development
$ apt-get install libx11-dev libxt-dev libxp-dev libxext-dev libxmu-dev libxpm-dev libxinerama-dev libxi-dev

$ apt-get install libxrender-dev libxcomposite-dev libxdamage-dev libxfixes-dev

$ apt-get install libxft-dev libfontconfig1-dev

$ sudo apt-get install dbus-x11 libdbus-1-dev

For compiling old version of mxterm-235
$ sudo apt-get install libncurses5-dev libxaw6-dev
<This section is still fuzy and a word of caution when adding those packages>
Install the OpenGL libraries and includes for: Intel and ATi GPU based system

$ sudo apt-get install x11proto-gl-dev
$ sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dev mesa-common-dev
$ sudo apt-get install libglu1-mesa-dev
$ sudo apt-get install freeglut3-dev
